The Perfect Christian

Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to find a perfect Christian?

Perhaps it is because there are none: priest or parishioner; warrior, laborer or hermit.

Anyone who is perfect has no need of a savior to emulate.

Are you thinking that maybe you just might qualify? Others in history thought so too, such as the narrator of the A Man Of The Law trilogy.

Even more would twist themselves into a form that they think makes them appear to be perfect, in the hopes of becoming what they think they should be. Some are better at this approach than others, but we all miss the mark (which is the definition of sin) and fall short of the glory of God.

Some would redefine ‘perfect’ to be at least just a little bit better than someone else.  Yet this is far from functional in the long haul. There is one who is more perfect than any of us – Christ himself – and he sets the bar that none of us can attain.

On the flip side, if you know that you are not perfect, and you are not a follower of Christ, the Messiah, to what do you pin your hopes of sneaking in on the day when each of us will be judged? Perhaps your greatest hope is that there will be no day of judgement, or that you will somehow miss that appointment.

Even in this current day, how do you decide what labors and investments are fruitful and which are folly, unless you know where you now stand and what you strive to be?

Now if you find a Christian who admits they are not perfect, and then strives to know Christ, the Messiah, and follow his instructions, without being a stumbling block to anyone else – someone who uses his or her talents and gifts to build others up in the faith rather than putting them down, then you might just know a real Christian. There is much greater future potential for real Christians than there ever will be for perfect Christians.
