If you are a sports fan, or a church regular you have probably seen signage that says “John 3:16” and/or heard the actual text. The first person to hear it was a member of the Jewish Ruling Council. He was well studied in the Scriptures (at least what had been recorded up to that date). He was, himself, a teacher of the Scriptures. Yet the conversation that followed his night-time visit seems to have left him confused, and without clear direction.
