Exposure: COVID-19 and an excellent future

Just about everyone has heard the new rules:

  1. Don’t shake hands
  2. Keep 6 ft (2 meters) away from everyone
  3. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, with soap suds
  4. Many of us are under Stay Home orders, which has costs including financial and social.

What’s the point?

It’s all about exposure to a protein molecule that mutates and multiplies really well in human bodies, and can kill. SciFi movies dabbled with this plot line. We are not fighting aliens. And this time it’s not fiction.

I want to say thank you, thank you to all the healthcare workers out there who head into the fray each day. Some are family, some are neighbors, many are friends. While most of us are hiding, some are out there, taking risks in order to help others survive.

Adding to healthcare workers, I also thank delivery drivers, grocery store workers, and those who just care enough to keep track of their neighbors and friends.

In a world bent on competition and winning out over others, we have among us those who serve.

There is another type of exposure that can actually save lives, but many of us are hiding out from that too.

In these days, that kind of exposure doesn’t have to require close physical proximity, though sometimes it does.

If you could deliver to others peace, hope and joy in troubled times, why would you not do so?

Most people would explain their lack of approach citing fear or ill-preparedness. Some just don’t understand enough to even start a conversation. Others might honestly say they just don’t care enough to commit to helping others.

One day when we stand in judgement (maybe only standing for a few seconds before we realize the weight of evidence against us) even the good things we have done will be insufficient to rescue us.

But God sent his only son, that whoever believes in him to pay for their load of sins, who confesses with their mouth that he is their Lord, and believes in their heart that he conquered death and rose from the dead, will be saved.

This is NOT about good people and bad people. We ALL fall far short of God’s pure and perfect judgement. That’s why he sent his perfect, unblemished, sinless sacrifice to willingly bear our sins. In fact, in some instances, the people who look the most spiritual carry a stench of death.

So how can you share this excellent news? How will others believe unless they have heard? Are you keeping this most excellent news to yourself?

This is not just about the future. When someone accepts that God paid for their sins, and seeks to know God in this very hour, the Holy Spirit of God instantaneously begins a work in that person to produce a variety of excellent fruits including; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These are not fruits that we create. They are fruits that grow because of our ingrafting to the son of God, who is the true vine.

What would this world be like if exposure to these things caused multiplication among others?

And what would this world be like if these fruits went to rot?

If you want to know more, I encourage you to read your Bible. If you don’t have a paper copy, you may be able to download an app that has the whole thing on your phone or tablet. You can also go to: Biblegateway.com where, right beneath the “Enter Keyword, passage or topic” field, you can click on “Bible Book List” and pick a book of the Bible to start reading. You can start anywhere in the book. If you want a suggestion, read The Gospel of John, but that is not the only place to start. The letter of James is a shorter option to start, or you can start at the beginning – the book of Genesis. In fact, any book is a worthwhile place to start. Then keep reading.

You can also browse around https://percipientwitnesses.com/witness-list/ for some thoughtful historical fiction accounts of what God’s son is like.

If you want to talk to someone, you can call 1-800-NeedHim. Or reach out to someone you know who knows God. And you are aways welcome to respond here.

For myself, I do not want to be responsible for giving anyone the COVID-19 virus. I also do not want to be responsible for withholding the most excellent news about how to find an excellent, eternal future.
